In 1991, he relocated to Melbourne, where he developed a passion for kung fu at the Golden Lion Kung Fu Academy under the tutelage of Sifu Richard and Sifu Charles. At Golden Lion, Simon was a member of the tournament team. He then continued his training at the Shaolin/LiangI school. Over the years, he has practiced a variety of styles, including Eagle Claw Kung Fu, Choy Li Fut, and Hung Ga. More recently, he was invited to assist Master Liu Boshi with junior gradings at HH Kung Fu in Bendigo, Victoria.

Simon has leveraged his extensive martial arts knowledge to implement behavior management therapeutic programs within the psychosocial disability sector. He has applied these skills during his 25-year career with the Department of Human Services in Victoria and within the private sector.
